Case study: The Perse School, Cambridge
www.perse.co.uk
 Business Requirements
The Perse School was founded as a grammar school for Cambridge
in 1615. The School achieves some of the best academic results in the
country, but has never forgotten its origin as the Cambridge Free School.
The Perse is divided into three – the Pelican (for pupils aged 3–7 years),
the Prep (7–11 years) and the Upper (11–18 years). The school is
currently preparing itself to become co-educational throughout the Prep
and Upper schools.
 Communication Campaign
The Perse has a Development Office which is responsible for fundraising
and for communicating the school’s aspirations to alumni and parents.
In 2004 the Perse commissioned a new website: the website was required
to be structured so as to reflect the Pelican, Preparatory and Upper School
divisions (for both prospective and current parents), as well as to cater to
the needs of alumni and fundraising initiatives.
Features of the alumni/development area of the website
- Dynamic news section, with static areas for general development initiatives
- Online calendar
- Online payment to make donations
- Log-in area for alumni – access to database for online ‘who’s who’, bulletin board and job adverts
- Newsletter sign-up
- Questionnaire publishing & data gathering
- Easy access to obtain visitor statistics
- Training for nominated members of staff
- Annual support & maintenance
Process
“Andy spent time to get to know The Perse School and as a result
the look of the website was sympathetic to the image we wanted
to portray … our existing design was used but made to look better
… we were impressed with the quality of work produced.”
Roly Owers, Development Director

“The standard of service from Cambridge University Press is very, very good. You might get it cheaper, but you won’t get it better”
